Austin’s Asian American Resource Center (AARC) invites high school students to go beyond traditional professions and explore diverse career paths at the inaugural Asian American Teen Career Day conference on March 7, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The conference will provide high school students an opportunity to explore diverse career paths from local Asian American professionals that may fit their interests, skills and passions. Students will participate in panel discussions and career presentations and learn about getting ready for college.
The conference will take place at the AARC, located at 8401 Cameron Rd., Austin, TX 78754. The registration fee is $20 dollars and includes breakfast, lunch, and conference materials. Financial assistance is available. Registration will close once the conference meets capacity.
Many students preparing for college are familiar with traditional career paths such as doctors, lawyers, and engineers. For Asian American youth that are dealing with the “model minority” stereotype, there are often pressures to enter these highly skilled careers. By creating a space to inform, learn, and educate on the vast career fields, such as public service, education, creatives, and more, the AARC hopes to empower students to navigate college and find their right career path.
Presenters at the Asian American Teen Career Day include Assistant City Manager Rey Arellano; Founder and CEO of Chi’Lantro, Jae Kim; and local playwright, Christine Hoang. Learn more about the conference and all participating panelists.
