Beginning Friday, September 15, a City-hired contractor will begin work on the Blocks 2 & 4 Odor Abatement Project. This project will replace more than 800 linear feet of sagging wastewater lines and associated improvements in the two blocks adjacent to City Hall.
Traffic controls will be in place from 8 p.m. Friday night through 5 a.m. Monday morning, the project’s work hours. During this time, Colorado will be reduced to one travel lane between 2nd Street and Cesar Chavez and westbound Cesar Chavez will be reduced to one travel lane between Colorado and Lavaca. Drivers should pay attention to traffic signs and be alert for construction activity and speed changes in the work zone. The roadways will be returned to full usable condition outside of the project’s work hours.
For the initial phase of work, the contractor will begin excavating at the intersection of Colorado and Cesar Chavez and trench westward towards Lavaca along Cesar Chavez.
The project’s schedule calls for 180 calendar days and takes into account downtown’s many special events. The contractor will either not work or work a reduced schedule during ACL, Formula One, and other significant special events scheduled in or near the project. The Public Works Department will notify the traveling public when traffic patterns are expected to shift during subsequent phases of work.
