30-day public comment period for draft program rules begins.
Because displacement can have destabilizing effects on the most vulnerable members of the community, including low-income households and elderly and disabled residents, the City of Austin has adopted an ordinance to establish tenant notification and relocation assistance requirements. The ordinance requires the owner of a multifamily or mobile home park property who is redeveloping a property and displacing five or more households to notify the tenants of their intent to redevelop.
The City is conducting a rulemaking process to:
establish submittal requirements for applicants required to provide notification or financial relocation assistance to tenants;
specify procedures for collecting and disbursing financial tenant relocation assistance; and
provide general policy direction for the benefit of applicants, advocates, tenants, property owners, and City departments regarding the administration and enforcement of the Tenant Notification and Relocation Assistance Ordinance.
The draft rules for the Tenant Relocation Assistance Program have been released for public review and input. As required by City Code, comments on the draft rules must be submitted before April 1, 2017, the 32nd day after the date the review period begins.
Comments or questions can also be submitted in written form to Lauren Avioli, Neighborhood Housing & Community Development, P.O. Box 1008, Austin, TX 78767.
Staff will review all comments received and will provide responses at the close of the comment period. Once all comments have been received and the rules have been updated as appropriate, a Notice of Rule Adoption will be posted with the City Clerk’s Office and the rules can be formally adopted.
