The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with Univision Austin, brings back “Unase Al Reto” (Join the Challenge) for the Austin community in March 2013.
“Unase al Reto” is an eight month, grassroots campaign targeted to get the community moving. Beginning in March, and every third Wednesday of the month, following the KAKW 62 5pm newscast, Univision Austin, along with the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department, will be inviting the community to join local news anchors and parks and recreation staff to walk in different City of Austin Parks.
This year the campaign, in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association, kicks off with a program to increase awareness about the diabetes epidemic. On March 23rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the sponsors will host a Zumbathon in place of the normal 2.5 mile walk at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin. (600 River St.)
“Unase al Reto” began in San Antonio in 2011 and is now held in seven Univision markets. More than 500 people participated in the Austin program last year. All Unase al Reto events are free and open to the public.
