APD not to release Critical Incident Community Briefing video

The Austin Police Department works in collaboration with the Office of Police Oversight to provide a clear and unbiased account of critical incidents to the community with the goal of transparency and accountability through the release of community briefing videos.

On October 21, 2020, a federal judge assigned to the officer involved shooting case involving Austin Police Department (APD) officers working with the U.S. Marshal’s Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, issued a Protective Order that prohibits release of information related to the case until the conclusion of the criminal prosecution.

Due to this order, APD will not release the Critical Incident Community Briefing video for the August 25, 2020, officer involved shooting.
Consistent with APD policy, we developed a Critical Incident Community Briefing video regarding the officer involved shooting, intended for public release under the policy timelines.

This critical incident is the subject of an active federal investigation and prosecution. The investigation is ongoing and there are no further updates. APD remains committed to providing information on critical incidents to the community in a timely manner.
