In celebration of Austin Art in Public Places program's 30th anniversary year, the City commissioned an award-winning temporary public art project, in partnership with Art Alliance Austin, to run February 12 through April 27, 2015.
Hello Lamp Post: Austin is a city-wide platform for play that lets you talk to the city’s infrastructure and share your stories using the humble text messaging function of your mobile phone. By referencing the thousands of pre-existing identifier codes that label items of street furniture across the city, players can send text messages to particular objects, including (but not limited to) lamp posts, mail boxes, bus stops, manholes, and moontowers. Visit hellolamppostaustin.com to see some of the conversations residents and visitors had with Austin objects.
Created by PAN Studio and first launched in Bristol, UK in 2013, the project was exhibited as part of Designs of the Year at London’s Design Museum in 2014.
