The Austin-Travis County EMS Training Center Provides Basic Life Support (BLS) courses in CPR and First Aid to anyone who wants to learn how to save a life.  All BLS courses taught by the ATCEMS Training Center are official American Heart Association courses. Upon successful completion of the course students will be issued an official American Heart Association completion card.  

When attending a class please wear loose comfortable clothing and anticipate being on your hands and knees, bending, standing and lifting. If you have any physical conditions that may prevent you from doing these activities, please tell the registrar during registration. The CPR Program Coordinator will work to accommodate your needs within the stated course completion requirements.

Pre-registration and pre-payment are required.  Please note that registration is closed on Friday. To register with a credit card, please call 512-978-0176.  If you are paying by cash or check you must register in person at 4201 Ed Bluestein Blvd, Austin TX 78721.  Class materials are provided at the time of registration.  All checks returned for insufficient funds will be charged a twenty-dollar ($20) service charge.

COURSES OFFERED:

BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR Initial Course

Course Fee:                $50.00
Course Schedule:      Offered on the First, Second and Third Saturdays of each month from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Course Description:  This 5 hour class includes a video lecture and hands on skills.  It covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag mask), foreign body airway obstruction, and AED use.  Through out the course students will be observed practicing CPR with AED skills and at the end of the course students will be given a skills test along with a written exam.

This class is required for but not limited to healthcare professionals (nurses, EMT’s, Paramedic, Healthcare professions students, etc).

BLS for Healthcare Provider Renewal CPR Course

Course Fee:                $30.00
Course Schedule:      Offered on the First, Second and Third Saturdays of each month from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Course Description:  The American Heart Association no longer offers the classroom version of the renewal course.  Instead, all BLS students (renewal and initial) will take the same Initial course. The Austin-Travis County EMS Training Center still offers the renewal course fee for those who hold a current and valid American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider card. Prerequisite: You must provide a current (unexpired) American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course completion card before registering for this class.

Heartsaver Adult with AED Course

Course Fee:                $35.00
Course Schedule:      Offered on the Second Saturday of each month from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Course Description: This 4 Hour American Heart Association Course includes a video lecture and hands on skills.  The course teaches CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults and children, and use of barrier devices for all ages.  Through out the course students will be observed practicing CPR with AED skills and will be given a skills test at the end of the course for initiating CPR along with using an AED on a manikin.

Heartsaver Adult & Pediatric with AED Course

Course Fee:            $40.00
Course Schedule:  Offered once a month on the Second Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Course Description: This 6 hour American Heart Association Course includes a video lecture and hands on skills.  The course teaches CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults and children, and infant CPR and relief of choking, and use of barrier devices for all ages.  Throughout the course students will be observed practicing CPR with AED skills and will be given a skills test at the end of the course for initiating CPR along with using an AED on a manikin.

This course meets the Texas Department of State Health Services guidelines for childcare centers.

Heartsaver First Aid Course

Course Fee:                 $40.00
Course Schedule:      Offered six times a year on the first Saturday of the months of February, April, June, August, October and December from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Course Description:  This 4 hour American Heart Association Course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.  Course is a video based instruction and includes General Principles, Medical Emergencies, and Injury Emergencies and may include Environmental Emergencies.  Through out the course students will be observed practicing First Aid Basic skills and will be given short quizzes over the different First Aid sections.

The ATCEMS Training Center offers offsite classes at your facility for a minimum of six students. Offsite classes are scheduled from Tuesday through Friday only.  Two weeks notice is required to set up a class at your facility.
