Permit Requirements include but are not limited to the following:
The property must have passed an Austin Fire Department maintenance inspection in the previous twelve months.
There will also be an inspection at the time the permit is issued.
All fire protection systems present in the structure must be functioning properly and have a valid annual inspection tag from a licensed contractor.
Maximum occupant load will be posted on the permit. If separate loads are given for different areas of the premise you are responsible for managing the crowd.
Exits from the property cannot be locked, blocked, or obstructed by decorative materials.
Use of cut plants, shredded paper, plastic sheeting, and similar combustibles inside a structure is prohibited.
Plastic sheeting with a flame retardant listing may be used on the exterior only, and documentation of flame resistance must be provided.
External use of cut plants is not allowed unless previously approved and chemically treated with a retardant solution. (Fire Marshal will test material after application.)
A licensed contractor must apply the flame retardant solution to cut plants and a letter from the contractor identifying what was treated must be provided.
Any decorative materials used with cut plants on the exterior must also be flame resistant.
Decorations must not cover any fire detection or notification devices.
Additional fire extinguishers must be provided as needed.
Cost for a permit will be $100.00. Fee must be paid before permit is issued.
Requirements for outdoor structures:
Temporary decks shall be no higher than 30 inches off grade.
Murals or walls shall be no taller than 8 feet. (measured from the base of the wall).
Murals or walls are allowed to be two sided, i.e. two murals/walls attached to deck. No three sided or four sided structures.
No roofs/coverings of any type.
No multi-story decks.
Home made pools are not to be used without approval.
Engineering sign-offs may be required if the safety of any temporary structure is in question.
Structures exceeding the limitations above shall require WPDR submittals, Building Permits, and WPDR inspections.
