The City is developing a new ordinance to improve creek and floodplain protection; prevent unsustainable public expense on drainage systems; simplify development regulations where possible; and minimize the impact on the ability to develop land.
The Watershed Protection Ordinance initiative is the result of a resolution approved by City Council on January 13, 2011. The City will hold a series of stakeholder meetings from August 2011 through April 2012 to obtain public input. Additional opportunities for staying involved include e-mail updates, a speakupaustin! forum, briefings to the Environmental Board, and public hearings at Boards, Commissions, and City Council during the ordinance adoption process.
