The Green Infrastructure Working Group met from January to June 2015 as part of the city’s land development code rewrite process, CodeNEXT, to discuss how we can achieve the Imagine Austin goals of integrating nature into the city, sustainably managing our water resources, and creating complete communities through revisions to the zoning, drainage, and environment codes
This group examined how the code can encourage the broader vision of green infrastructure established by Imagine Austin: “an interconnected system of parks, waterways, open space, trails, green streets, tree canopy, agriculture, and stormwater management features that mimic natural hydrology.”

The result of this input was used to guide City staff recommendations for the watershed protection elements in the Natural and Built Environment Code Prescription. This information was in turn included in the draft CodeNEXT, released to the public on January 30, 2017.
