AE’s Information Technology professionals support the energy network needs of the eighth largest community-owned electric utility in the United States. The electric utility’s technology needs extend across the state of Texas in support of alternative energy capabilities.
The AE IT organization’s goal is to support AE’s mission. The organization is structured into six divisions and one workgroup: Business and Quality Management; Customer Service; Enterprise Applications; Engineering and Architecture; Operations; Project Management; and Enterprise Information Security. These teams provide technology services that range from technology design through the optimization of today’s emerging technology.

Highlights and Achievements
Enhancements made to the Power Plan which provides an integrated view of asset data to all enterprise stakeholders. It combines financial, operational and regulatory data from AE’s work management systems and COA’s financial system, providing AE with greater visibility into detailed asset data.
Partnered with Sun-Net to customize a Transmission Outage Application specifically to meet its reporting and operational requirements. The tool allows AE to coordinate outage activities with the Electric Reliability Council.
Flew Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to safely inspect poles and power lines in remote areas difficult to access by ground crews or helicopters. Deploying UAVs (drones) for inspection purposes supports storm restoration activities, safety and cost-savings.
