The Austin Fire Department is committed to creating safer communities through prevention, preparedness and effective emergency response.
The Austin Fire Department Business Technology section supports this mission with 88 business applications and modules that provide automation of processes within 20 lines of business. Radios, dispatch and mobile data computers in fire apparatus are managed by the AFD Communications unit which consists of eight sworn personnel, six of rank.

Integrated with City's spatial GIS data and able to do Google-maps-like reports combining maps with tabular data.
Completed implementation of field hydrant inspections using a mobile app which increased quality and timeliness of hydrant inspections.
IT Manager Elizabeth Gray received the “IT Manager of Year” award for a Public Chief Information Officer from Government Technology.
