Applicant Instructions and TAP Conditions:

I hereby apply for a tap connection to the water and/or wastewater system at the service address noted on this application.  If any of the information I have provided is incorrect, I understand that I may be required to pay additional tap fees; capital recovery fees or other costs associated with relocation of water or wastewater connections.

Your signature signifies you have read and understand this information, and that you authorize the Austin Water Utility to enter upon the above-described private property for the purpose of inspecting the septic tank to be abandoned  Applications will not be processed without a signature; an emailed application implies your signature.

Tap Expiration:  The Tap Permit will expire 2 years after the date of issue; refunds will not be processed after the expiration date.  To keep the tap permit active after the 2-year period, for properties inside Austin city limits, you must have a valid building or plumbing permit.  For properties outside the city limits, you must have a valid and active plumbing permit from the City of Austin.  Contact the Austin Water Utility at 972-0000 for more information. 

Water Service Inspection:  The City of Austin Planning and Development Review Department will inspect the water service connection and install a water meter upon successful completion of the inspection.  Request the inspection by completing the “Interactive Inspection Request for Water service and Septic Tank Abandonment” at http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/water/inspectionapp.cfm or by completing the attached form and faxing it to 972-0024. 

Wastewater Inspection Only:   The Planning, Development Review Department Plumbing Inspectors inspects the connection of the private property sewer at the point where it connects to the City sewer.  You can request this inspection by calling 480-0623.  The process number for the inspection type is "510 - Sewer Tap."  Failure to obtain a wastewater inspection will make you liable for all costs associated with verifying that the proper connection procedures have been followed and all other requirements are met.

Septic Tank Abandonment:  For abandonment of a septic tank and conversion to City wastewater service, request the wastewater service inspection by completing the “Interactive Inspection Request for Water service and Septic Tank Abandonment” at http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/water/inspectionapp.cfm or by completing the attached form and faxing it to 972-0024. 

For properties outside the City limits of Austin:   Permanent water and/or wastewater service and the setting of a permanent water meter require the successful passing of a Final Plumbing Inspection.  Water meters set or water and/or wastewater service provided prior to passing this inspection are considered temporary services, and are subject to disconnection without notice.
