Locating Criminal and Traffic Cases

To find a criminal or traffic case, you must know the defendant's name and date of birth, driver's license number, citation number, or case number. To locate a specific case, complete the search screen. Click the navigational buttons to view a case summary (that is, see scheduled events, such as a hearing) and/or make a payment on a case.

To find a criminal or traffic case:

  1. Click the Criminal & Traffic Search link on the Public Inquiry Home page.
  2. Choose one of the following search methods:
    • If searching by name, type the defendant's last name and select the defendant's month, date, and year of birth from the drop-down lists. (To use a drop-down list, click the down arrow next to it and then click one of the items listed.)
    • To search by license number, click the By License button.
    • To search by citation number, click By Citation.
    • To search by case number, click the By Case Number button.
  3. Enter the information on the screen.
  4. Click the Search button. If the defendant is found, the following information appears: Person ID (the number used for tracking persons in the court's case management system), name, and address. If the person is not found, click the Back button on your browser to return to the previous screen. Make sure the information entered is correct, and search for the person again.
  5. Click the Person ID number to view cases for the defendant. By default, Public Inquiry only shows active cases. To see closed cases or all cases (both active and closed), select View All or View Closed from the Cases drop-down list on the right side of the screen.

Locating Parking Cases

To locate a parking case, you must know the plate, VIN, citation number, or case number. To locate a specific case, complete the search screen. Click the navigational buttons to view a case summary (that is, see scheduled events, such as a hearing) and/or make a payment on a case.

To find a parking case:

  1. Click the Parking Search link on the Public Inquiry Home page.
  2. If searching by license plate number, type the plate number and choose the vehicle state from the State drop-down list. (To use a drop-down list, click the down arrow next to it and then click one of the items listed.) To search by VIN, click the By VIN button. To search by citation number, click By Citation, or to search by case number, click the By Case Number button. Enter the information on the screen.
  3. Click the Search button. If the vehicle is found, the following information appears: plate, state, VIN, make, model, year, address, city, state, and zip. If the vehicle is not found, click the Back button on your browser to return to the previous screen. Make sure the information entered is correct, and search for the vehicle again.
  4. Click the OPEN link to view a parking case.

Viewing Case Details

The Public Inquiry system can display details for a traffic/criminal case such as charge and filed date, and details for a Traffic case such as defendant name, ticket filed date, and violation code.

To see case details:

  1. Search for the criminal/traffic case or search for the parking case as explained in the previous instructions.
  2. For criminal and traffic cases, click the case number link to see additional information, or for parking cases, click the OPEN link.

Finding Scheduled Event (Hearing or Court Date) Information

To find the next scheduled event for a case:

  1. Search for the criminal/traffic case or search for the parking case as explained in the previous instructions.
  2. Click the Case Summary button.

Viewing Previous Payments

To see a list of previous payments:

  1. Search for the criminal/traffic case orsearch for the parking case as explained in the previous instructions.
  2. Click the Previous Payments button.

Making Payments

If you are not on a person time payment plan set up by the court, follow the first set of directions, below, to make a payment. If you are on a person time payment plan, follow thesecond set of directions.

To make a payment:

  1. Search for the criminal/traffic case orsearch for the parking case as explained in the previous instructions.
  2. Click the Make a Payment button.
  3. Read the instructions. If you are not on a payment plan set up by the court, click the Pay Cases button. A list of cases appears. If you are on a payment plan, click the Pay Plan button, then follow the instructions for making payments on a person time payment plan.
  4. Click the checkbox next to the case you want to pay.
  5. Click the Next Step button.
  6. Complete the fields on the next screen. Note: Security code is the three-digit code on the back of VISA, Mastercard, and Discover, and the four-digit code on the front of American Express cards.
  7. Click the Next Step button.
  8. Verify that the information shown is correct. If it incorrect, click the Previous Step button to return to the last screen and correct the information. If the information is accurate, click the Submit Payment button.
  9. Wait while the payment is submitted. During this time, DO NOT CLICK THE BACK BUTTON ON YOUR BROWSER. Do not click Submit Payment more than one time. A confirmation message displays when the payment has been accepted.
  10. Click the Print this Page button to print the page. Keep the printed copy as your receipt.

To make a payment on a Person Time Payment plan:

  1. After clicking the Pay Plan button, type the amount you want to pay in the Amount column.
  2. Click the Next Step button.
  3. Enter credit card and billing information on the screen. Note: Security code is the three-digit code on the back of VISA, Mastercard, and Discover, and the four-digit code on the front of American Express cards.
  4. Click the Next Step button.
  5. Verify that the information shown is correct. If it incorrect, click the Previous Step button to return to the last screen and correct the information. If the information is accurate, click the Submit Payment button.
  6. Wait while the payment is submitted. During this time, DO NOT CLICK THE BACK BUTTON ON YOUR BROWSER. Do not click Submit Payment more than one time. A confirmation message displays when the payment has been accepted.
  7. Click the Print this Page button to print the page. Keep the printed copy as your receipt.

FAQs

Question: How can I see a closed case?
Answer: Select "View All" or "View Closed" from the Cases filter on the right side of the Case Listing screen.
Question: How can I see more detail about a case?
Answer: Aftersearching for a case, click the case number to see additional information, such as filed date, status, and charge.
Question: I clicked the Case Summary button, and the message "No records found" displayed. Why can't I see the Case Summary?
Answer: The Case Summary only shows events (any type of court date). To see details for the case, after searching for a case, click the case number link.
Question: How do I find the next scheduled court date for a case?
Answer: After searching for a case, click either the case number link or click the Case Summary button.
Question: Can I make a partial payment on a case?
Answer: You may only make a partial payment if you are are set up on a Person Time Payment plan by the court. Otherwise, the Public Inquiry system only accepts full payments.
