On June 8th the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB-MACC) hosted “Sonidos del Barrio Showcase” (roughly translated: sounds from the old neighborhood.) This show, first produced in 2001, is presented in co-sponsorship with ALMA (Austin Latino Music Association).

The ESB-MACC is proud to help foster this organization’s activities. The ESB-MACC provides a focal point where the Latino Community (and all of Austin) can come together and celebrate our shared Latino heritages. Events like this, open to all and well attended, go a long way to helping fulfill our promise to our community.
The mission of ALMA, (Austin Latino Music Association) meaning “soul” in English, is to increase knowledge and awareness of local Latino music and important figures in Austin’s Latino music scene. ALMA provides important exposure and resources to local musicians, and assists in the development of young musicians who will keep Latino musical styles and traditions alive in the Capital City.
