In partnership with Austin FC and the U.S. Soccer Foundation, the Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) proposes creating a new soccer mini-pitch for the Austin community at Civitan Neighborhood Park. The project is through the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Safe Places to Play program.

Background

The tennis court to be converted is in poor shape and underutilized. The transformation of one of the two tennis courts into a mini-pitch will provide a safe and exciting space for people to play soccer. The project will include state-of-the-art Mini-Pitch System manufactured by Musco Sports Lighting, allowing the space to be safely utilized for soccer in the evening.

Funding

Initial funding for construction and maintenance will be provided through Austin FC and their partners. PARD will also be undertaking additional improvements at the site. The property and maintenance will be maintained by PARD beyond the initial funding.

Anticipated Schedule

Community engagement began in September and continues to the beginning of October. If the new mini-pitch is supported by the community, construction on the new mini-pitch will begin in late fall 2021.

Community Engagement

The community engagement process will seek to increase awareness of mini-pitch soccer, identify whether the project is supported by the community, identify future possible programming at Civitan Park, and continue to develop relationships between the Montopolis community, Allison Elementary, Austin FC, and PARD.
