City Council Member Paige Ellis - Biography

Council Memeber Ellen Troxclair

Austin City Council Member Paige Ellis was elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022 to represent District 8 – Southwest Austin. Her professional background includes Marketing and Public Involvement. For 8 years prior to being elected, she worked for an environmental firm specializing in environmental compliance on housing development and regional transportation projects. She has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

She is Chair of the Mobility Committee and also serves on the Housing and Planning Committee, the Public Safety Committee, and the Austin Energy Oversight Committee. She is proud to represent Austin as an appointee to the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) Transportation Policy Board, to the Capital Area Council of Governments’ Clean Air Coalition, the Clean Air Force of Central Texas Board of Directors, and the American Flood Coalition.

During her tenure, Council Member Ellis has championed mobility, housing, and affordability efforts. She led the effort to pass the 2020 $460M Active Mobility Bond and helped to shape the Project Connect effort. She has consistently advocated for diverse housing options across the city that are accessible to families and individuals of all income levels and stages of life. She is also a proud cosponsor of expanding the homestead exemption for homeowners, and as one of just two renters on the dais, she has been a strong supporter of assistance for renters as well. In addition, Council Member Ellis has been a strong advocate for Austin’s public parks and pools, environment, and many other quality of life efforts.

She volunteers for and supports many causes in Austin including the Texas Book Festival, the Austin Parks Foundation, Keep Austin Beautiful, the Barton Springs Conservancy, the Zilker Botanical Garden, and The Trail Foundation. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, camping, kayaking, and enjoying Austin’s outstanding food and music scene.
