As part of the Neighborhood Planning process, the parking of vehicles in the front and side yards can be prohibited in all or part of the planning area. However, if your neighborhood is within an adopted planning area and has a City of Austin-recognized contact team, but did not prohibit front and side yard parking during the planning process, an application may be submitted by the contact team in February of a given year. If there are existing subdistricts in the planning area or if it is a combined planning area, the neighborhood planning area contact teams may request all or part of their planning area be included on the Restricted Parking Area Map.
If a neighborhood is not located within in an adopted planning area and not in the neighborhood planning process, a neighborhood association registered with the City of Austin may submit an application to prohibit parking in the front and side yard for their entire neighborhood in February of a given year.
Applications from recognized contact teams and registered neighborhood associations will be considered by the City Council for their addition to the Restricted Parking Area Map. The City of Austin’s Planning and Zoning Department will mail a notice (in English and Spanish) to all property owners and City of Austin utility account holders in the newly designated area to explain the ordinance and penalties if it is violated.
Neighborhood associations and contact teams only have to submit their applications once to be included on the Restricted Parking Area Map. To remove their area from the map, a neighborhood association or a contact team must submit a new application in February of a given year, but only if it has been more than three years after the area was first added.
By the end of February, the application must be hand delivered to the Planning and Zoning Department Offices at 505 Barton Springs Road, 5th Floor or mailed with a February postmark to the Planning and Zoning Department, P.O. Box 1088, Austin, TX 78767.
