In collaboration with the Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) and the surrounding community, Austin Parks Foundation (APF) plans to improve Govalle Neighborhood Park, emphasizing the playground area by focusing on accessibility, ADA compliance, and maintaining the character and history of the park.

Park Information

Govalle Neighborhood Park is located on Bolm Rd. near Airport Blvd. Boggy Creek cuts through the park and Walnut Creek Trails starts here. The playground equipment in the park has been identified as a priority for replacement.

The focus of the project will be to bring improvements to the playground. In addition to new equipment, the project will bring the playground into ADA compliance and address access and safety concerns. Some preliminary feedback indicates there is a community desire to add some recreation amenities, as well. APF will work with the community to identify other amenities or improvements in the park to help prioritize the community's goals and seize on the existing project outreach and engagement to gather their feedback more broadly.

Proposed Schedule

The project is anticipated to span from a July 2020 project kickoff to a proposed December 2021 completion. The proposed schedule below is subject to change and will be updated as needed.

  • March 2021: Community Meeting #3 (share back final selection and project scope, timeline, solicit final feedback)
  • April-August 2021: Permit and CD formatting
  • September-October 2021: Project bidding and award of contract
  • November 2021 to June 2022: Construction
  • June 2022: Anticipated project completion

Community Engagement

Overall community engagement plan with tentative dates is included in the schedule above.

Opportunities for feedback on the playground and other desired amenities will include:

  • Online and Text Surveys (English and Spanish)
  • Virtual Community meetings via Zoom (English with live Spanish interpretation)

Our goal is for community members to become engaged to reflect the known demographics of the neighborhood, with a particular interest in involving immediate neighbors to the park.
