Editorial Sections
The editorial section is a department's site menu structure. Every content type created requires users to select an editorial section.
The most common of these sections includes the home page (the department's name), About, Media, Programs, Divisions, Locations and Services. Selecting one of these editorial sections defines where the content will be "placed." For example, when creating a department page for a specific program, you would select "Programs" for the editorial section. If it is a department page, it will show up in that listing.
Note: Programs, Divisions, Locations etc. are not pages themselves. They are list views and display the title and summary of department pages assigned to them. If you want to change how a page is displaying on these list views you have to go to that specific page and edit it.
Page Reference
The Page Reference field is related to editorial sections in that it tells the system where to put specific items. This field associates items such as contact information, promos, news releases, etc. with pages on the website, so those items will show on the right and left-hand columns of the correct pages.
As an example, let's say you wanted to add a new large promo to the "Community Feedback on Example Plan" page. When creating the promo, you would select whatever editorial section the Community Feedback on Example Plan page is assigned to. In this case, we'll say Programs.
Then, in the Page Reference field, you would type the page title: "Community Feedback on Example Plan." As you type, a list of options related to what you typed will appear. You would select the correct page title. The system will place a number after the title - this is how you can tell if the system understands what page to use.
The page reference field only needs to be used when placing items like promos, contact information, etc. on pages that are not specifically listed in the editorial section box. Therefore, if you want to place one of those items on the Home, About or Media page, you can simply select any of those items from the editorial section, check the "Display on Highlighted Page Above " check box and leave the Page Reference field blank.
