Register for Starting (Or Rebuilding) Your Own Business

This three-hour class will give you a blueprint for getting your business started. By the end of the session, you’ll know what paperwork needs to be filed with the state, how to evaluate your competition and assess the market, and what you need to consider for daily operations. In addition to logistics like location, hiring, and insurance, we’ll cover something important you might not have thought about: having the right mindset to run your own business.

If you are a freelancer, a creative or consultant considering an official launch of your own independent business, this class is a good fit for you too. Business owners are encouraged to invite key stakeholders and partners in the business as well.

Check out other small business training sessions the City of Austin Small Business Division offers in celebration of the Austin Small Business Week at www.SmallBizAustin.org.

What To Expect:

Participants will be able to speak and interact with the instructor and others, as if in a live in-person session. There will be ample time for Q&A at the end, but we also have plenty of group discussion planned during the session as well. There will be two ten-minute breaks to allow for checking your email, grabbing a cup of coffee, etc.

Course Materials:

  • All participants will receive a follow-along workbook to take notes, follow instructions and complete exercises during the session.
  • Presentation slides and exercises will be provided to all participants.
  • Participants will also get a free toolkit - a collection of templates, forms, worksheets and other resources that will be made available at the end of the class. This is intended to provide additional information and support as you continue on the path to starting your business.

This workshop is eligible for the City of Austin Small Business Skills Certificate program. Participants who complete six courses in the program are recognized in an awards ceremony at City Hall with other local business and community leaders.
