The tunnel will capture, carry and discharge Waller Creek flood waters into Lady Bird Lake. This will significantly reduce the 100-year floodplain and provide flood relief for more than 28 acres of land. The tunnel will also alleviate the problem of stream bank erosion. When it is not raining, lake water will be pumped into the creek to maintain a gentle flow of water. The project will add improvements to Waterloo Park and areas surrounding the creek side inlets. The project has already resulted in the new Parks and Recreation Department boat facility.
