In November 2012, Austin voters approved Proposition 10 to establish for the first time a Municipal Civil Service system for most City employees that are not covered by state Civil Service law.

Those City of Austin personnel under the state law include uniformed/non-civilian Emergency Medical Services, Fire and Police.

The Austin City Council appointed five Austin residents in May 2013 to serve on the first Municipal Civil Service Commission created by this amendment to the City Charter.

The MCS Office encourages employees to schedule an appointment to meet with staff or submit documents. To schedule an appointment, please call or email MunicipalCivilService.HRD@austintexas.gov.  Online submission of appeal documents is encouraged when possible.
