The Austin Police Department (APD) will be conducting active shooter training today, September 24, from 5 p.m. - 12 a.m. This is not in response to any specific threat. The training will be coordinated with our public safety partners, Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS.
As we all know, active shooter events happen in various places, which is why we look for opportunities to train in different environments. In the past, APD has trained in industrial sites, military bases, schools and theaters. This evening’s training will focus on the entertainment district.
Street closures include the 600 block of Neches St..
There is no immediate threat to the public. We share this information so that folks in our community are aware of what is taking place.
