Time: Approximately 6:35 a.m.

The Austin Police Department Sex Crimes Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect wanted for the attempted sexual assault of a woman this morning in the 500 block of S. Pleasant Valley Rd. (across from Krieg Softball Complex). The victim was running on the hike and bike trail when she was grabbed from behind. The suspect attempted to pull down her shorts. They both fell to the ground at which time the victim sustained visible injuries during a physical altercation with the suspect. The suspect ran north on the trail after the attack.
The suspect description is vague due to the lighting during the assault. He is described as a:
- Light-skinned male (possibly White or Hispanic)
- Approximately 5’6”
- Heavy build
- Last seen wearing a shirt with the sleeves cut off - believed to be light in color with no writing or logo and possibly jeans
It is unknown at this time whether the suspect sustained injuries, but the victim did report striking, punching and possibly scratching the suspect.
The victim in this case did an excellent job of fighting back. We encourage anyone in this kind of situation to:
- Fight, yell, scream, draw attention to the situation
- Exercise with a partner/group of people in well-lit areas if possible
- Avoid wearing earphones in both ears so you can hear what is happening
- Remain situationally aware about where you are and who is around
- Carry a cell phone
- Let others know what route you’re taking and when to expect you back
