Joe “Mikey” Montemayor, pictured below, was murdered on Monday, September 22, 2014 in the 1100 block of E. Oltorf. This case has been under investigation since that time. The Austin Police Department (APD) Cold Case Unit is asking for the community’s help in solving this six-year-old crime.
On that day, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at an apartment complex. The caller reported a man had fallen down on the sidewalk and was gasping for air and bleeding badly. Officers immediately began attending to the victim upon arrival along with Austin-Travis County EMS and Austin Fire Department personnel. Despite life-saving attempts, Joe “Mikey” Montemayor was pronounced deceased on scene.
APD detectives arrived to talk with residents as crime scene personnel processed the scene. The Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and formally ruled the death a homicide.
Joe Montemayor did not reside at the complex where he was murdered. He was there with friends who were visiting someone.
At the time of his murder, Mr. Montemayor was wearing plaid shorts and white “Jordan-style” sneakers.
