Artist Career Training Opens for Austin-area Creative Professionals

Creatives of all disciplines should apply online by September 6 at www.austintexas.gov/artistcareertraining

The City of Austin Economic Development Department invites Austin-area creative professionals to apply for Artist Career Training. This six-week business training will educate participants on how to successfully manage a profitable business in the creative industries. Participants will learn business planning, marketing, and funding. Professionals from all disciplines are encouraged to apply online at www.austintexas.gov/artistcareertraining by Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.

"The Artist Career Training program gives local creative professionals a chance to enhance their business skills, learn about City resources, and network with subject matter experts, City staff, and other local artists” explains Sylnovia Holt-Rabb, Director of the Economic Development Department. “We encourage all local creatives to apply for this high-quality training.”

Up to 24 creative professionals will be selected for the program through a competitive application process. Criteria for acceptance include the quality of artistic work, applicants' career goals, and overall readiness for the program. Applications will be reviewed by a panel of community arts leaders and practitioners, representing a range of artistic disciplines.

Throughout the program, ACT participants will develop a grant proposal for the City’s cultural funding program and other funding opportunities in the region. The program concludes with a proposal pitch in which three winners are selected to receive a $500 cash prize to begin their projects.

The application is free. A nonrefundable, one-time course fee of $150 will be charged to selected participants. Participants must be at least 18 years old and reside in the Austin-Round Rock-Georgetown Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), which includes Travis, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, and Williamson Counties. University or community college students are not eligible.

Application Opens: Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 10 a.m.
