AAC needs foster homes for at least 20 medium and large dogs due to overcrowding and unseasonable temperatures.
 
Austin Animal Center continues to be overcapacity for medium and large dogs, and has run out of places to put them.
 
“Besides every normal dog kennel being filled, we also have 13 dogs in crates stashed in every climate-controlled nook and cranny,” said AAC operations manager Abby Varela. “We have literally run out of places to put them. Normally we would put dogs in crates in our outside truck port area when we have no other options, but with the potential heat advisory, we need them moved out of there immediately.”
 
Austin Animal Center is looking for people to foster a medium or large dog for at least a week. Staff are available to process applications and help fosters find the right match every day this week from 11 am to 6 pm. 
 
Available dogs can be viewed on AAC’s website at austinanimalcenter.org. The shelter is the municipal shelter for the City of Austin and unincorporated Travis County and is located at 7201 Levander Loop.
