Businesses Live Pitch for Opportunity to Enter Chinese Global Market on March 12, 10PM – 2AM
The City of Austin’s International Program, within the Economic Development Department’s Global Business Expansion Division, and Alibaba Group, the largest commerce company in the world, are pleased to bring the second Midnight Pitch Event to Austin, Texas. This LIVE stream Midnight Pitch Event will run from 10 PM to 2 AM on March 12 at Austin City Hall, 301 W 2nd St.
Nine entrepreneurs will take the stage to pitch their products to a captive audience of Chinese retailers on Taobao Global, Alibaba’s solution that allows small-to-medium size businesses from outside of China to reach Chinese consumers via buying agents. This follows the first U.S. live pitch event in Austin, Texas last year, which garnered more than 13,000 views and 5 of 11 businesses received offers from Taobao Global to sell to China.
Alibaba Group serves as a gateway for businesses of all sizes to access China’s large and growing middle class of more than 300 million consumers -- expected to grow to 500 million in the next 5 years.
The Pitch Event aims to increase visibility of Austin brands and give businesses a chance to explore the Chinese consumer market, minus the expense of flying to tradeshows in China to meet buyers.
Participating businesses were coached by export experts, Blue Heron Holdings, LLC, Lee & Hays, PLLC, along with the Alibaba Group and the City of Austin Economic Development Department, prior to the pitch event to ensure fit and feasibility of importing their products into China and lay the groundwork for potential international expansion.
The Midnight Pitch Event will also feature a live audience and musical sets between pitches performed by Jonny Gray and Ray Prim.
