Musicians of all genres are encouraged to apply at atxmusic.org
The City of Austin Music & Entertainment Division within the Economic Development Department, in partnership with Trammell Crow Company, recently launched an ATX Busking Program Pilot within the Seaholm District as a draw to residents and visitors to newly opened public spaces and buildings in downtown Austin.
The pilot will secure and activate prime busking spots throughout the development for musicians registered and selected through the program.
The program will utilize a one-time $150,000 allocation of funding from the Green Water Treatment Plant Redevelopment, within the Seaholm District, earmarked for music programming to compensate all local musicians selected to perform.
“We are dedicated to the constant pursuit of sustainable living wage compensation opportunities for Austin’s musicians,” said Erica Shamaly, Manager for the City of Austin’s Music & Entertainment Division. “The ATX Busking Program Pilot is a fantastic opportunity to pay local musicians an appropriate guarantee for their services, while establishing best practices to expand the program throughout the City. We look forward to developing this program with our local musicians, while searching additional partnership opportunities with the real estate development community to improve outcomes for Austin musicians.”
The program pilot will also serve as an opportunity to integrate busking culture into Austin’s Music Friendly Community designation while increasing the number of local musicians who are registered as City of Austin vendors, a designation that could provide future opportunities.
Musicians are encouraged to apply for the ATX Busking Program Pilot by submitting an application which can be found at atxmusic.org, for performance consideration.
Performances will be vetted and curated by the City’s Music & Entertainment Division. An official programming launch date is anticipated in spring 2018 during South by Southwest (SXSW). All genres are encouraged to apply.
