Austin police officers responded to the 1000 block of E. Anderson Lane following a report of a bicyclist lying in the roadway. The cyclist, later identified as Elgin Earl Lahrmann, was transported by Austin-Travis County EMS to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he died on January 15, 2021.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Lahrmann was riding eastbound in the middle lane of traffic when he was struck from behind by a black sedan that fled the scene.

This was Austin’s fourth fatal traffic crash of 2021, resulting in four fatalities. At the time in 2020, there were four traffic fatalities.
