The preliminary investigation shows that the pedestrian, later identified as Connor Avery Hughes, attempted to cross midblock in the 4000 block of Airport Boulevard. He was struck by a blue, 2012 Chevrolet Cruze that was traveling northbound.
Connor Hughes was transported by Austin-Travis County EMS to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he died on January 11, 2021.
The driver of the Cruze remained on scene and showed no signs of impairment. It also does not appear that excessive speed was a factor. There are no charges expected.

This was Austin’s second fatal traffic crash of 2021, resulting in two fatalities. At the time in 2020, there were three traffic fatalities.
