On Saturday, August 1, 2020 at approximately 7:54 p.m., Austin police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 11700 block of S. Mopac Expy (near the intersection of S. Mopac and Archelata Blvd) where they discovered a grey, 2019 McLaren 600. The passenger in the car, later identified as Andrea Silvio Granzotti, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased on scene at 8:01 p.m. The driver was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center by STAR Flight with life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation shows that the McLaren was traveling east on S. Mopac Expy at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a concrete pillar. It is believed that speed was a factor. It is unknown at this point whether driver impairment contributed to the crash.

This is Austin’s 50th fatal traffic crash of 2020, resulting in 55 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, there were 46 traffic fatalities.
