On Friday, June 28, 2019, at approximately 1:47 a.m., Austin police officers responded to the call of a shooting that had just occurred in the parking lot of 11800 N Lamar Blvd. The shooting victim, Joseph Anthony Aguilar Campos, was found unresponsive inside a vehicle that had crashed into a tree. APD officers and Austin-Travis County EMS both attempted life-saving measures, however Campos succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene at 2:18 a.m.

Detectives from the APD Homicide Unit responded to the area and began interviewing witnesses. Based on information gathered to this point, the motive behind the shooting appears to have been a robbery attempt among individuals who knew one another.

Witnesses described seeing two Hispanic males and one Hispanic female in a white sedan with a black hood and two Hispanic males in a dark-colored sedan flee after the shooting. Detectives are still working to identify those individuals.

The Travis County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy this morning and ruled the official cause of death to be homicide.
