On Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 7:56 a.m., Austin 911 received a call of an in-progress robbery at a residence in the 2900 block of Pecan Springs Rd. The caller continued to provide updates including information that two residents had been shot. Officers arrived on scene and located the two gunshot wound victims and another male with penetrating trauma. Officers learned the male was one of the robbers. Officers continued tending to the two residents and performed CPR on the male. Austin-Travis County EMS arrived and took over resuscitation efforts. The male was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he later succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased at 9:14 a.m.
At 8:40 a.m., Austin 911 was notified by Ascension Seton Hospital on W. 32nd St. of a second male with penetrating trauma who had been dropped off by someone in a tan-colored Volkswagen Jetta. The driver of the Volkswagen dropped off the male and then left.
Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists responded to process the residence. (extra space) Detectives interviewed witnesses on scene and at the hospital where they established that the decedent, the male transported to Ascension Seton Hospital and the driver of the Volkswagen were all involved in the attempted robbery. Investigators further learned that during the course of the attempted robbery, one of the residents fought the suspects, stabbing two of them in the process. One of the suspects fired a weapon multiple times, striking two of the residents. The three male suspects then fled the interior of the residence. The decedent collapsed in the driveway while the two other men fled in the Volkswagen.
Detectives were able to identify and locate the driver of the Volkswagen as Raul Luevano. Luevano was brought to the homicide unit for questioning where he waived his rights and told detectives what had occurred. He has been charged with murder. At least one other arrest for murder is expected. This incident appears to be isolated to the individuals involved.
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
