Arrested:     Matthew Gonzalez, Hispanic male, 18-years-old

On July 30, 2020, an arrest warrant for the murder of James Anthony Walker was issued for 18-year-old Matthew Gonzalez. Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force located Gonzalez the next day and took him into custody. Gonzalez is currently being held at the Travis County Correctional Complex on a $1 million bond.

On July 13, 2020 at approximately 3 p.m., Austin 9-1-1 received multiple calls of shots fired at the apartment complex located at 2400 Wickersham Ln. Callers reported a man was down inside the complex. Officers arrived and located the man who was still breathing, but had obvious trauma to his body. Austin-Travis County EMS arrived and transported him to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas. He was pronounced deceased at 3:51 p.m. by Dr. Coopwood.
 
Homicide detectives arrived to begin interviewing witnesses as crime scene specialists processed the scene. There are multiple subjects who have been identified in connection with this homicide. Based on information gathered thus far, the homicide appears to be related to a dispute concerning the victim’s vehicle, which had been stolen three days earlier.
 
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
