On Friday, January 22, 2021, Austin 9-1-1 received a call that a person had been shot at 4600 Elmont Dr. APD officers arrived on scene and found two male subjects that had been shot while seated in a vehicle. The suspect was not on scene. Austin-Travis County EMS arrived and attended to both victims but the driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene. The front passenger, who called 9-1-1, was transported to a local hospital.
Homicide investigators and crime scene personnel arrived and began to investigate. It was learned during the investigation that the two victims had been contacted by the suspect, who wished to purchase a small amount of marijuana. The suspect arrived to purchase the marijuana and at one point during the meeting shot both victims and left the scene.
The suspect was identified as Roger Chimney. A warrant was issued for his arrest and Chimney was subsequently located and arrested by the Lonestar Fugitive Task Force. He is currently in custody at the Travis County jail.
The deceased victim has been identified as Adrian Lamar Haynes.
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and the official cause of death was ruled gunshot wounds and manner of death Homicide. This is Austin's 3rd homicide of 2021.
