On Friday, June 24th, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the 7000 block of Craybrough Circle for a report of a missing person, Yolanda Jaimes. After investigating the scene, officers suspected foul play connected to Jaimes’ disappearance. As a result, a CLEAR alert was issued for Jaimes. At her home, Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists found evidence showing a significant amount of blood had been cleaned up.
APD detectives interviewed Jaimes’ relatives, including her husband, Jose Villa-Denova. Villa-Denova was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence based on the totality of the investigation to date. He is currently in the Travis County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
APD investigators, in collaboration with Travis County Search and Rescue and the Search Dog Network, searched several locations to find Jaimes. On Tuesday, June 28th, 2022, team members found unidentified human remains in an advanced state of decomposition.
On Wednesday, June 29th, 2022, the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the cause and manner of Jaimes’ death are pending.
On Friday, July 1st, 2022, the Medical Examiner’s Office identified the human remains as Yolanda Jaimes’, and the CLEAR alert was discontinued. The Missing Persons Unit continues investigating what led to Jaimes’ disappearance and death.
