Southwest launches new nonstops from Austin to Sacramento, San Francisco

Southwest celebrates nonstop daily service between Austin and Sacramento, San Francisco.
AUSTIN, TEXAS – Southwest celebrated new, nonstop daily service between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Sacramento (SMF) and San Francisco (SFO) on April 9, 2018, with a launch event. Held at Gate 10, the ceremony included a live musical performance by Cari Q, a ribbon cutting, cake, and remarks from Southwest and airport officials about the significance of the connection between destinations. “With our long history in Austin, Southwest’s mission continues to be answering demand from our loyal Customers who seek faster journeys by adding more nonstop service to the places that matter to them most,” said Kevin Sullivan, Southwest’s Director of Corporate Sales. “As the hometown airline carrying more people who are traveling for business or leisure, we expect an instant success for these two routes linking the Heart of Texas to Northern California.” The new Southwest daily nonstop from Austin to Sacramento will depart AUS at 7:55 p.m. and arrive at SMF at 9:45 p.m. Flights depart SMF at 6:30 a.m. and arrive at AUS at 11:50 a.m. “The new nonstop of Sacramento makes connecting capital to capital easier than ever,” said Jim Smith, executive director of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. “With this new daily service plus another option to San Francisco, Southwest now connects our Central Texas travelers to four airports in Northern California.” San Jose (SJC) and Oakland (OAK) are also serviced by Southwest with nonstop flights from Austin-Bergstrom. Southwest now offers 68 daily departures from AUS and is the largest airline carrier at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, transporting over 5.17 million passengers in 2017. Along with Sacramento (SMF) and San Francisco (SFO), Southwest is also starting a Sunday nonstop service to Indianapolis (IND). Starting on April 8, 2018, the Southwest nonstop route from Austin to Indianapolis (IND) will depart on Sundays from AUS at 1 p.m. and arrive at IND at 4:20 p.m. Flights depart IND at 4:20 p.m. and arrive at AUS at 6:05 p.m. Cutting the ribbon to celebrate new Sacramento and San Francisco nonstops on Southwest are from left: Austin Chamber representative and Partner Norton Rose Fulbright Paul Trahan, Susana Carbajal, Assistant Director, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport; Kevin Sullivan, Director of National and Regional Sales, Southwest Airlines; Greg Bentch, Chief of Staff for State Representative Tony Dale; Ernie Saulmon, Austin Airport Advisory Commission; and Kate Messer, Communications Director for Austin City Council Member Jimmy Flannigan.
