The Austin Police Department Motors Unit will accompany bicycle riders participating in the Texas Brotherhood Ride on Saturday, August 24, 2019. The eight-day, 650-mile ride begins in Hempstead, Texas and continues on throughout the state to Trinity, Nacagdoches, Tyler, Dallas, Alvarado through Fort Worth to Mexia, then on to Temple and from Temple to the final destination in Austin.
The participants in the Texas Brotherhood Ride are firefighters, police officers and EMS personnel who ride bicycles to honor first responders who have died in the line of duty. The goal of the Texas Brotherhood Ride organization is to provide emotional and fiscal support to the families and colleagues of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Bicyclists will arrive at the North IH-35 frontage southbound road at Wells Branch at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019. Riders will depart from there and travel to the 1100 block of W. Anderson Lane where they’ll rest briefly before completing the final leg of their journey to the Texas Capitol where they are estimated to arrive at 4 p.m.
The route will include North IH-35 to North Lamar, then Guadalupe to 15th to the Capitol (maps below). There will be some rolling closures associated with the event, particularly on Lamar. We encourage drivers to allocate extra time if they’ll be traveling in the area on Saturday afternoon.
