UPDATE:
Arrested: John Bagwell, 19-years-old
On August 2, 2022, the U.S. Marshals Service Colorado Violent Offender Task Force arrested John Bagwell in Monument, CO, on an arrest warrant. Bagwell was charged with 1st Degree Murder for a shooting on May 23, 2022, in the parking lot of LA Fitness.
The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force assisted in arresting Bagwell. Bagwell was taken to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center, awaiting extradition to Austin.

Deceased: Jose Aguirre-Castellanos, Hispanic male, 03/24/1986
On Monday, May 23, 2022, at approximately 8:08 p.m., 911 received a call reporting a shooting in the parking lot of LA Fitness located at 1824 W. Slaughter Lane. Austin Police Department (APD) officers and EMS responded to the scene and found a male victim Jose Aguirre-Castellanos on the ground with obvious trauma. Despite life-saving measures, Aguirre-Castellanos died. He was pronounced deceased at 8:22 p.m. by Dr. Escott.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Specialists investigated the scene and interviewed witnesses. Several vehicles fled the scene after multiple shots were fired from those vehicles, according to eyewitnesses. A person of interest was apprehended and questioned by homicide detectives. Narcotics and robbery appear to be the motive for the shooting.
The Travis County Medical Examiner's conducted an autopsy and determined the official cause of death as gunshot wounds and the manner of death as a homicide.
