AUSTIN, Texas – On Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, Honor Flight Austin’s Veterans Day flight transported 15 Austin-area World War II, Korean and Vietnam War veterans to the nation’s capital to visit and experience the memorials built in their honor. This is the 49th Austin Honor Flight to date, and the ninth this year.
At approximately 10 a.m., the veterans arrived in ticketing at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). At 11:30 a.m., the veterans, guardians and staff assembled for a procession, from Gate 5 to Gate 11. The procession was led by the TSA Honor Guard and Austin Police Department Bag Pipes.
Honor Flight Austin departed Austin-Bergstrom at 1:05 p.m., arriving at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) at 5 p.m. The veterans will return Saturday, Nov. 11, departing from Reagan at 3 p.m. and arriving at AUS at 5:45 p.m., all times local.
Join Honor Flight Austin for a welcome home greeting at about 6 p.m. upstairs in west ticketing. The veterans are scheduled to arrive at 5:45 p.m. at the Barbara Jordan terminal.
The flight is operated by Southwest Airlines. The Hilton Austin Airport is a corporate sponsor of Honor Flight Austin. During this flight, lunch and refreshments were provided to veterans courtesy of ThunderCloud Subs. Trips on Honor Flight are made possible at no cost to the veterans through donations.
