Join Us Online as We Celebrate the Global Entrepreneurs of Austin
On Monday, November 13th, 2017 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm the City of Austin's Economic Development Department Global Business Expansion Division is hosting a Twitter Town Hall online event from City Hall celebrating the growing number of global entrepreneurs who call Austin home. We are inviting the 170 other countries and many other US cities who participate in Global Entrepreneurship Week to join us online as we tweet news, updates and success stories from Austin, Texas.
"The most resilient businesses have multiple sources of revenue, especially from both inside and outside of Texas and the US. Economies rise and fall in cycles, and having exposure to more than one economic climate helps businesses stay strong and grow,” said Casey Smith, International Program Manager, City of Austin Economic Development Department. “We help businesses outside of Texas do business here, as well as help Austin business owners expand beyond our borders for a global footprint.”
Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is a tactical education and celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. During one week each November, GEW inspires people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators.
"Celebrating Austin Entrepreneurs who have already Gone Global and connecting current Entrepreneurs to available resources, that's the goal all week. We have many Success Stories who will share their experience at live events and online as they light the way for others," said David Colligan, Manager, Global Business Expansion, City of Austin, Texas.
The City of Austin’s International Trade and Investment Program within Economic Development works to link Austin businesses with international markets and business partners, and increase foreign direct investment in the city.
"It is exciting to expand the global reach of Austin's business owners, through the many important programs offered by our Economic Development Department," said Kevin Johns, Director of Economic Development for the City of Austin, Texas. "Embracing the new realities of an online business environment, and the dissolution of previous geographic barriers to modern business practices allows for more growth, more rapidly than ever before."
