Danny G. McBeth Recreation Center and Annex, located in Zilker Park, provides social opportunities through quality programs that challenge, support and teach leisure skills for the citizens of Austin with differing abilities. Year round programs for youth, teens and adults are offered through our after school explorers, spring break, summer day camps, Good Neighbor Adventure Club and adult enrichment programs. McBeth Adaptive Sports Programs provide individuals of all abilities the opportunity to improve sports skills, build confidence, and engage with peers and to participate in Special Olympics area and state competitions. Year round sports offered include: Basketball, Tennis, Softball, Aquatics, Bocce, Golf, Bowling, Soccer and Volleyball. Special events include the Art in the Park Festival in the spring, Costume Ball and Carnival in October and monthly dances. Volunteers may assist in many of these program areas.

Facility Description

Facilities include a large meeting room, 2 activity rooms, ceramics room, kitchen/craft room, game room, exercise room, outdoor picnic areas, accessible playscape and sand play area. This fully accessible facility offers adapted recreation programs throughout the year. Staffs to participant ratios vary from 1:4 to 1:15 depending on the type of program, age and the special needs of the participants.

The center was named after Danny G. McBeth who was active in advocating for rights and services for the disabled community. In operation since February 1986.
