Citizens of Austin can be assured that Homicide and Cold Case Unit personnel are selfless in their sacrifice and commitment to bringing closure to the victims of these tragic crimes. The personnel work tirelessly to bring to light the facts of the case and work with the District Attorney’s Office for successful prosecution of these violent offenders.
Homicide Unit Current Cases
The Homicide Unit is comprised of a Lieutenant, (2) Sergeants, (12) Detectives, (1) Administrative Specialist and (1) a Victim Services Counselor. The Detectives assigned to the unit are on an on-call team rotation in order to respond 24 hours a day should the need arise. They are also partnered with Crime Scene Specialist and Travis County Medical Examiner Investigators on nearly every incident.
In addition, the Detectives work closely with outside agencies as well as others units within the Police Department such as the Intel Unit on cases involving components of Organized Crime, Narcotics, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse, or Domestic Violence.
All investigators assigned to the Homicide Unit are selected on the basis of work ethic, investigative experience and skill, police experience and an expressed desire to investigate homicide cases.
