The Unit also assists other law enforcement agencies such as the FBI on robbery-related matters. Members of the Robbery Unit provide ongoing training and education in robbery crime trends and investigation to other Department members. They also provide training and educational programs to banks and other institutions.
The Robbery Unit is comprised of One Lieutenant, Two Sergeants, Fifteen Detectives, One Crime Analyst, One Victim Services Counselor, and One Administrative Assistant. Two of the detectives in the unit are assigned to work with the Central Texas Violent Crimes Task Force, which is a multi agency team who investigates bank robberies and other select federal offenses that occur in the Central Texas area. Task force detectives are selected on a competitive basis and only those who have demonstrated the ability to work well under pressure and thrive in a team environment are considered.
The Robbery Unit is staffed seven days a week until 3 am in the morning. After 3am, on call detectives are available to assist patrol with cases that come in that require immediate attention.
