TREE INVENTORY

Tree inventories are an important tool used to assess the health and longevity of the urban forest. Inventorying trees on publicly owned land is important for actively managing the health of the trees and the safety of the public. The City of Austin is collecting data on trees growing on the public right-of-ways of city streets and on parkland. This data is used for scheduling tree care, planning, and in the Urban Forest Management Plan.

The Urban Forest Inventory Report summarizes the information collected in 2008.

STRATUM (Street Tree Management Tool for Urban forest Managers) is a tool that was created by the USDA Forest Service to quantify benefits and costs associated with public street trees. The reports below are an analysis of the sample street tree inventory that was conducted in 2008. Please reference the “i-Tree User’s Manual” for specific information about the model and reports.
