PROGRAMS/EVENTS

Lone Star Limericks Writing Competition - Annually in July

The O. Henry Museum presents Lone Star Limericks: a public, online writing competition for all ages. Pay tribute to this great city and state's people, places, sights, and sounds by immortalizing (or gently mocking) them in verse! Your limerick can reference anything about Texas or Austin – your favorite (or least favorite) Texas person, city or state park, wildflower, animal, road trip experience, barbecue joint, I-35 exit, debilitating allergen–the sky’s the limit! Just keep it short, snappy, and family-friendly! Stay tuned for more information about Lone Star Limericks 2025!

Stitch In Time Club (All Ages) - Final Fridays – 2pm-4pm & Second Saturdays – 11am-1pm

Join us for our Stitch in Time Club, a bimonthly gathering where community, creativity, and history come together through textile arts. Hosted by the Susanna Dickinson Museum and O. Henry Museum, this stitching circle celebrates the timeless traditions of fiber crafts—honoring the role of textiles in everyday life and history.

O. Henry Pun-Off World Championships - Annually in May (traditionally the day before Mother's Day)

Experience the highest celebration of the lowest form of humor at this free, day-long event featuring masters of wordplay, live music, and food trucks.  As one of Austin’s oldest “weird” events, the O. Henry Museum Pun-Off World Championships is an internationally renowned spoken word competition focused on the art of the pun. For 48 years, punsters have gathered in Austin, TX for a battle of wit and wordplay in honor of famous wordsmith and short story writer, William Sydney Porter, better known as O. Henry. In the 1890s, Porter and his family lived in the Queen Anne-style cottage on 5th Street that now houses the O. Henry Museum.
