Asian American Resource Center (AARC) Senior Program is designed to address the intergenerational wellness and education needs of Austin residents age 60 and up, with focus on the Asian American community. 

Eligibility & Registration

  • City of Austin resident, age 60 and older
  • Senior Lunch Program – Eligible participants can receive one free meal a week. There is a $5 fee for those who do not meet eligibility. Participants must register for the senior lunch program 7 days in advance either by phone at 512-974-1700, in person, or by email at AARC@Austintexas.gov.
  • Transportation – Austin Parks & Recreation Department (PARD) Senior Transportation oversees limited transportation to AARC Senior Program. You must contact PARD Senior Transportation at 512-974-1464 to register and for more information. AARC staff will not handle transportation request.

 

The AARC Senior Program encompasses several components including:

Senior Tea and Coffee

Fresh tea and coffee are served Monday-Thursday mornings to all senior program participants. 

Senior Lunch Social

Free meal for Austin residents aged 60 and older every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

There is a $5 fee for those who do not meet eligibility. Participants must register for the senior lunch program 7 days in advance either by phone at 512-974-1700, in person, or by email at AARC@Austintexas.gov. We have limited lunches. Vegetarian meals are available by request. Wednesdays are vegetarian only.

Transportation Service

Austin Parks & Recreation Department (PARD) Senior Transportation oversees transportation to AARC Senior Program. Space is limited and you must contact PARD Senior Transportation at 512-974-1464 to register. AARC staff will not handle transportation request. Austin Senior Congregate Meals

Outside the AARC Senior Program, the Austin Parks and Recreation Department collaborates with Meals on Wheels as a partner for the delivery of congregate meals to several Austin-area recreation and senior activity centers. The Senior Congregate Meals Program is open to anyone 60 years of age or older. The meals are at the suggested Client Share donation of $1.00 to $3.00 but no contribution is required. In addition to lunch, participants share social and recreational activities and receive additional benefits such as nutrition education, health and welfare counseling and information and referral services.

Traditional recreation activities are offered specifically for seniors at the Austin Parks and Recreation Department’s three senior activity centers listed below. Additionally, the other recreation centers and the Dougherty Arts Center offer many programs for adults and seniors.

Other Senior Transport Options

Drive A Senior is a local non-profit that connects Austin area volunteer drivers with seniors who need rides. Seniors must be non-driving or limited driving, over age 60, and within the boundaries of one of their service areas. Seniors must be able to walk on their own or with walkers and canes. ADA Accessible Transportation
