Senior Program 

AARC Senior program is designed to address the intergenerational wellness and education needs of Austin residents, age 50 and up, with a focus on the Asian American community.  AARC Senior Program is part of Austin Parks & Recreation Department (PARD) Varsity Generation and Congregate Meal Program. The Congregate Meal Program is open to anyone, 60 years of age or older and meals are provided by Meals on Wheels (MOW).

PARD Senior Transportation will provide limited transportation to AARC from pre-determined consolidated stops.

The AARC Senior Program encompasses several components including: 

Component  Description  Eligibility  Registration 

Senior Tea and Coffee  

 

Fresh tea and coffee are served Monday-Thursday mornings to all senior program participants.  Must be a AARC Senior Program Participant, age 50 and older  Complete the registration form online or in person at the AARC.
Congregate Meal Program Lunch  Healthy meals provided by Meals on Wheels, every Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.   Must be a AARC Senior Program Participant, age 60 and older  First time MOW participants must complete registration with MOW in person at the AARC. 
Wellness and Education Activities  Activities include Tai Chi, gentle yoga and meditation, dance, ping pong, gardening, arts & crafts, health and nutrition, computer and technology, ESL, and Asian board games  Activities are tailored for people age 50 and older. Most activities require you to be part of AARC Senior Program or PARD Varsity Generation program.

Transportation Service  PARD Senior Transportation oversees limited transportation at pre-determined consolidated stops to AARC. Space is limited.  AARC staff will not handle transportation request.  People age 60 and older and part of a Congregate MOW site including AARC.  Contact PARD Senior Transportation at 512-974-1464 or SRTransportation@austintexas.gov to register. Senior Congregate Meals Program

The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department welcomes Meals on Wheels and More as our partner for the delivery of congregate meals to eight (8) recreation/neighborhood and senior activity centers through out Austin. The Senior Congregate Meals Program is open to anyone 60 years of age or older. The meals are at the suggested Client Share donation of $1.00 to $3.00 but no contribution is required. In addition to lunch, participants share social and recreational activities and receive additional benefits such as nutrition education, health and welfare counseling and information and referral services.

 

PARD Varsity Generation

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of Varsity Generation programs and services for people 50 years of age and older. Activities include traveling, pursuing old hobbies and learning new ones, socializing with friends, meeting new people, increasing knowledge, becoming, and staying physically fit, contributing to the community and much more!

 

Other Senior Transport Options 

Drive A Senior is a local non-profit that connects Austin area volunteer drivers with seniors who need rides. Seniors must be non-driving or limited driving, over age 60, and within the boundaries of one of their service areas. Seniors must be able to walk on their own or with walkers and canes. ADA Accessible Transportation 
The City of Austin and Capital Metro have wheelchair accessible and ADA transportation options available. Contact the Austin Parks & Recreation Senior Transportation, (512) 974-3914, and Capital Metro, Metro Access Services, (512) 389-7501, for more information.
