APD RESET Project

APD RESET Project

The Austin Police (APD) Wellness Division has developed an advanced training program for local mental health clinicians within the non-profit and private sectors who have experience or interest in working with law enforcement personnel and complex trauma. The goal of the Resiliency Enhanced Support EMDR Therapy (RESET) project is to select clinicians who have already been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and offer them advanced EMDR training focused on assisting those who work in the law enforcement profession.

This specialized program integrates in-depth education on law enforcement culture, the cumulative impact of repeated trauma exposure and moral injury, and the application of EMDR Therapy with this unique population. Participants will also receive training in the Early Intervention protocols developed by Ignacio Jarero, PhD, EdD, and Lucina Artigas, MA.

APD Wellness is specifically looking for mental health clinicians trained in EMDR that are interested in a partnering with the department to better serve diverse law enforcement personnel such as police officers, police dispatchers, 911 call takers, crime scene analysts, victim services providers, and forensic analysts. Clinicians who have experience working with a variety of clients and communities are encouraged to apply for this specialized training program.

In this program, selected clinicians will receive free training that typically costs between $2,000-$4,000 in exchange for a commitment to provide 50 pro bono therapy sessions to law enforcement personnel. As an added benefit the clinicians will have continued access to the EMDR trainers for consultation purposes after the training is complete. In addition, all participants who complete the training will receive CEU credits, up to 14 hours of EMDRIA CE credit hours, and be issued a certificate.

The specialized training will take place over two weekends, an optional half day of virtual training, and a series of required consultation sessions. Participants will also be expected to participate in one police officer ride out, prior to the training dates.

The deadline to apply is August 24, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CST
